IM GRADANGLES

We can make gradient images at IM that are just like our html WebTV gradtables. You can fill a directory with the different angles and put them together using the composite tool. Or you can use any of the other features at IM to distort of otherwise shape the angles.

These are the essential steps to make an angle:

  • First be sure that the IM studio has the F/X Distort options. Some private IM Studios may not.
  • Go to the input page at an IM Studio.
  • At the bottom of the page, put in the size (I put 100x100).
    Under Format, click Gradient.
Under Meta put in two colors (I put red-black).
  • Scroll back up to the top of the page and click View (under the blank URL box). You will get an image that looks like this.

which looks like our angle 0.
  • Next click on the F/X button.
  • On the next page click on Distort. In the paramer box put in the angle you want. I put in 90. Scroll down to the bottom, under Distort Type, click on either SRT or Scale Rotate Translate (They do the same thing). Then click Effect.
  • The image should now look like this:
  • Output as a gif or jpg.

  • Angle -90Angle 140Angle -140
You can also flip or flop the Angle images
    You can enter colors as
    black-red for the gradient
    and get these.
    Angle 140
    Angle -140
to get the view that you prefer.

If you make the images a red-black combination, you can get other colors from that image under the Enhance tab and using the Hue option with the parameters and Examples shown here. (From a different tute. Hit your back button to get back here.)

If you want a white angle or other unique color not on this Sample page you will have to make an angle that particular color.

Here are some gradient fun examples:

  • First make a gradient (as above) 100x200, yellow-black.
  • Distort it to a 90 angle SRT, Output the image but do not upload. Save the URL.
  • Click on Transform and flop the image.
  • Click on Transform again and put 100x0+0+0 in the Parameter box and click splice. On the bottom put black in the background color box and click Transform.
  • Click Composite, put the saved URL in the URL box, Gravity Northwest. Click composite.
  • Click Resize. Put 50x300! in the box and click resize.
  • Output the image again and save the URL, don't upload.
  • Resize the image to 300x300!
  • Click Composite, enter the new saved URL, click the tile across box at the bottom.
  • The image now looks like this.
  • Click F/X, Parameter 360, Distort, Type=Arc, Virtual Pixel Method=Black, Click Reset Page Geometry
  • Resize to size of your choice.
